What an assessment for MSTML2004 must cover

57 assessable components: 5 elements (20 performance criteria), 7 performance evidence and 30 knowledge evidence requirements. An audit-defensible tool maps every question and task back to these — that mapping is the coverage matrix Auditori generates alongside the assessment.

Elements & performance criteria

1 Determine job requirements

  • 1.1Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  • 1.2Comply with work health and safety (WHS) requirements at all times
  • 1.3Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) in accordance with SOPs
  • 1.4Identify job requirements from specifications, drawings, job sheets or work instructions

2 Prepare to produce felt for millinery

  • 2.1Determine design and production requirements
  • 2.2Consider use of new or recycled fibres or traditional fibres and select fibres appropriate for the production of felt
  • 2.3Check fibres for quality and characteristics according to production requirements
  • 2.4Identify and follow workplace procedures, including safe handling and processing of fibres, associated dyes and detergents
  • 2.5Prepare suitable work area, materials and equipment, and resource requirements

3 Prepare fibres for felt production

  • 3.1Wash and dye fibres according to design and production requirements
  • 3.2Card and comb fibres and dry fibres, as required
  • 3.3Transfer fibres to area for next process

4 Undertake felting process

  • 4.1Place and layer fibres, alternating direction with each layer
  • 4.2Place fibres onto a suitable frame or surface to be saturated with soapy water and agitated
  • 4.3Remove fibres from frame or surface, hand rub and shrink as required
  • 4.4Dry fibres in preparation for blocking and shaping
  • 4.5Repeat wash if the felting is unsuccessful

5 Finalise felting process

  • 5.1Check felt against design and production requirements
  • 5.2Transfer felt to appropriate area for next process or pack and store
  • 5.3Dispose of all waste, and complete housekeeping and required documentation

Performance evidence

  • reading and following work instructions, standard operating procedures (SOPs), safe work practices
  • interpreting felt design and production requirements
  • selecting appropriate fibres
  • conducting felt production and dyeing activities on at least two (2) occasions
  • producing felt to design and production requirements on at least two (2) occasions

Questions about assessing MSTML2004

What does an assessment tool for MSTML2004 need to cover?

To satisfy the Principles of Assessment and Rules of Evidence, an assessment for MSTML2004 needs to address all 57 unit components: 5 elements with 20 performance criteria, 7 performance evidence requirements, 30 knowledge evidence requirements, and the foundation skills. A coverage matrix mapping each question and task to these components is what an auditor looks for.

How does Auditori generate an assessment tool for MSTML2004?

Auditori pulls the current release of MSTML2004 from training.gov.au and generates a complete package: candidate assessment, assessor guide with model answers and observation criteria, and a coverage matrix mapping every component. A suitably qualified person then reviews and approves the draft in a built-in workflow — consistent with ASQA's guidance on AI use in VET — before export as branded PDF and editable Word.

Is the first assessment tool really free?

Yes. Every new account includes one free credit — enough to generate the complete assessment tool for MSTML2004 — with no card and no subscription required. After that it's pay-as-you-go per unit.

Can I check my existing MSTML2004 assessment instead of generating a new one?

Yes — upload your existing assessment or learner guide and Auditori maps it against every element, performance criterion, PE and KE of MSTML2004, showing exactly what's covered and what's missing. Mapping costs a quarter of a credit.
